Fire Safety in Building Facades — Understanding A2 Grade ACP

Building facade fires are a critical safety concern — the 2017 Grenfell Tower disaster in London resulted in worldwide regulations mandating non-combustible cladding for high-rise buildings. In India, NBC 2016 and local building codes require A2 grade or better cladding for buildings above 15m height.

ACP Fire Rating Classes

Class A (A1+A2): Non-combustible. A1: Pure mineral materials. A2: Very limited combustibility — includes mineral-core ACP panels like ALDURA FR. Class B: Combustible but flame-retardant. Standard PE core ACP panels fall in Class B/C. Class C–F: Increasing combustibility — not suitable for high-rise or public buildings.

What is ALDURA FR?

ALDURA FR is an A2 Grade fire retardant ACP panel with >90% inorganic mineral core. It is tested and certified to EN13501-1 (European fire classification) and EN1182 (ignitability testing), IIT Madras tested and ARAI Pune certified. Performance: negligible heat emission, zero toxic gases, zero smoke, no flaming droplets.

When is FR ACP Required?

ALDURA FR panels are mandatory for: Buildings above 15m height, Hospitals and healthcare facilities, International airports and terminals, Hotels above 5 floors, Public buildings and institutions, Underground metro stations and tunnels, Schools and educational institutions.

Installation Note

FR ACP panels must be installed with non-combustible sub-frames (aluminium or steel) and non-combustible insulation. All penetrations and gaps must be fire-stopped with approved materials. Ensure your contractor is familiar with FR ACP installation requirements.
