What is ACP? A Complete Guide to Aluminium Composite Panels

Aluminium Composite Panels (ACP) are flat panels consisting of two thin aluminium sheets bonded to a non-aluminium core. Lightweight, durable and available in hundreds of finishes, they have become the material of choice for modern building facades, signage and interior surfaces worldwide.

Construction of an ACP Panel

A standard ALDURA ACP panel consists of the following layers from top to bottom: (1) Protective film, (2) PVDF colour coating (Lumiflon), (3) Primer coating, (4) Aluminium skin (3003 alloy, up to 0.50mm), (5) Adhesive, (6) Core material (PE or mineral-filled FR), (7) Adhesive, (8) Aluminium skin, (9) Back primer and paint.

Types of ACP Panels

Standard PE Core ACP: General purpose panels for non-high-rise exterior and interior use. Cost-effective with excellent colour range. A2 Grade FR Core ACP (ALDURA FR): Mandatory for buildings above 15m height, hospitals, airports and public institutions. Core is >90% inorganic mineral. HPL-ACP: Aluminium panels with High Pressure Laminate face — available in wood-grain, marble, stone and special texture prints.

PVDF Lumiflon Coating

ALDURA uses Lumiflon PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) coating on all ACP panels. This fluoropolymer resin provides 15-year UV resistance, superior colour retention, anti-fouling properties and excellent weatherability. PVDF coatings outperform standard PE polyester coatings by a significant margin in outdoor durability.

Standard Sizes & Specifications

Standard sheet sizes: 1220×2440mm (8×4ft), 1220×3050mm (10×4ft), 1220×3660mm (12×4ft). Available in 5ft width on select colours. Thickness: 3mm, 4mm, 6mm (standard); 1mm–8mm on special request. Aluminium skin: up to 0.50mm. Tolerance: ±2mm width/length, ±0.2mm thickness.
