PVDF vs PE Coating — Which ACP Should You Choose?

Not all ACP panels are equal. One of the most important quality differentiators is the coating system applied to the aluminium skin. PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) and PE (Polyester) are the two most common coatings — but they perform very differently outdoors.

PVDF (Lumiflon) Coating

PVDF fluoropolymer coating is the gold standard for ACP panels in exterior applications. Key properties: 15-year UV resistance guarantee, superior colour retention (Delta E <5 over 10 years), excellent chalk resistance, anti-fouling, self-cleaning surface. Ideal for: all exterior facade applications, tropical and coastal climates, high-UV environments. All ALDURA standard ACP panels carry PVDF Lumiflon coating.

PE (Polyester) Coating

Polyester coating is lower cost but has significantly inferior outdoor performance. Key properties: 3–5 year effective UV resistance, colour fading is rapid in tropical climates, higher chalk resistance tendency, lower cost. Ideal for: interior applications only, temporary structures, signage in covered areas.

How to Identify

PVDF coated panels carry a technical data sheet confirming Lumiflon or equivalent resin content ≥70%. Always request the TDS when purchasing ACP. Avoid panels sold as "weatherproof" without a confirmed PVDF or FEVE fluoropolymer specification.

Verdict
